In essence a diabetic
diet is nothing more
than a good healthy diet, it does not
mean having to go out and by specialty foods that cost a lot
of money and are hard to find.
|
|
Glucose or sugar comes
from many of the foods we eat and as our food is digested it enters
the bloodstream.
Once in the bloodstream
the glucose in the normal person is broken down by the insulin
produced in the pancreas and then passed to every cell in your body
where it is used as a fuel to keep the cells
functioning.

If you suspect you may have diabetes there is one
particular diabetic test that most doctors prefer to use above all others to make the most accurate
diagnosis possible. If your doctor wants to confirm your suspicions he will order a Fasting Plasma
Glucose Test, this test for diabetes is considered the most accurate available.
In order for you to take this test you will need to fast
for at least 8 hours after which a blood sample will be taken and sent to the lab for testing. If
the readings of this particular diabetes test come back with readings that are between 70 and 100
milligrams for your blood glucose level chances are pretty good that you do not have type 2
diabetes. However is if it 126 milligrams or higher you blood sugar levels are too high, and you
may need to be place on medication.
If you have other factors that put you at risk for
diabetes, normal blood sugar
levels may not rule out diabetes. Your doctor may order another
type of test known as a glucose tolerance test to make sure he can safely rule out
diabetes.
The oral glucose tolerance test is another way that
doctors use to detect diabetes, especially if the standard fasting test results are
inconclusive.
This is the only gestational glucose test for diabetes
when the pregnant woman shows the symptoms associates with type 2 diabetes, but has passed the
fasting test with normal levels of blood glucose.
